Environmental and Position Sensors
Our sensor portfolio includes pedal sensors, position sensors, sensors for motor oil and temperature management, and rain/light sensors.
HELLA has been manufacturing radar sensors in the 24 GHz narrow-band range for over a decade. The sensor system is compatible with the standard functions of blind spot detection, lane change assistant and rear parking assistance.
The IBS reliably and accurately measures the battery parameters: voltage, current and temperature. Information about the batteryâs state of charge (SOC), state of battery health (SOH) and state of function (SOF) is calculated algorithmically from the measurements. The IBS is designed for use in starter, gel and AGM batteries to monitor in-vehicle starter or consumer batteries. The IBS can be directly integrated into the vehicle's electrical system with the standardized LIN protocol.
Our radar sensor safety features include: Blind Spot Monitoring: monitors the driver's blind spot and warns the driver of dangerous situations. Rear pre-crash system: tracks vehicles approaching from behind. Lane change assistant: warns the driver if a lane change might be unsafe. Rear cross traffic alert: warns the driver of approaching vehicles when maneuvering out of a parking space. Vehicle exit assistant: monitors the area to the right and left of the vehicle doors.
The HELLA accelerator pedals designed for floor-mounted or suspended installation can be used in a wide variety of vehicles - ranging from sports cars and electric vehicles, right up to robust applications in agricultural vehicles and construction machinery. Thanks to the wear-free measurement principle of the CIPOS sensor developed in-house at HELLA (see description of design and function of the angular position sensors) and its extremely low level of mechanical wear, this version is particularly preferable to contact-type pedals in the case of frequent small movements.
The full range of functions of the rain/light sensor (five functions: rain sensor, light sensor, solar sensor, humidity measurement, and head-up display) can only be used for passenger vehicle applications. This sensor can only be used to a limited extent in vehicles with special windshields (thick, slanted, transmission). The optics of the second sensor are specially designed for vehicles with steep windshields and combines the rain and light recognition functions (environment and tunnel recognition).

Our oil sensors ensure that the engine cannot work unnoticed with too little oil. The tried-and-trusted technology of these ultrasonic sensors work on the delay time principle and records the filling level continuously during the trip.
This controls the amount of intake air of the engine. Intake air volume changes depending on the opening angle of the throttle valve. This angle is controlled by the engine control unit and fulfills the tasks of the idle adjuster in modern vehicles.
Our voltage stabilizer provides an auxiliary power supply system in case of battery failure. Ensures automatic gearbox goes into P after for example an accident to set gearbox into âPâ as standing position (emergency parking mode). It also sets automatic park mode for when the vehicle door is open.
Our vacuum pumps provide engine-independent vacuum support and a flexible installation location. It is a Dry-running system (no connection to the lubricating oil circuit required and maintenance-free). It also supports further use of conventional brake systems for alternative drive systems, such as hybrid and electric drives, and provides a reduction of energy consumption due to demand-based use, supporting pollution emissions.
